Catherine L. Benamou

Professor Benamou’s research has been centered around Hispanophone, Lusophone, and post-colonial Francophone film and media and based in Latin America, the U.S., and Africa. Her field research has involved media ethnography and community historiography. Her publications have focused on transnational media flows, media and migration, authorial itineraries, documentary, and Latin American women’s cinema. At present she is working research for a book, Latinx Media and the Pursuit of Social Justice, that explores the working relationship between community organizations and radio, print, television, and film, mainly in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
